Job title: Elementary Physical Education

Other roles: Head Boys Varsity Coach at Bethlehem Academy

Classes you teach: K-5 PE

Previous work experience: 7-12 PE and Health at Bethlehem Academy

Years with the district: 6

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

Anything outdoors and active with my family, especially trips to the mountains and trail running.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?

I completed a half ironman this past summer.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in education?

I wanted to have an impact on kids and to be able to help guide them in their decisions and skills.

What do you enjoy most about working with students?

I love working mental toughness and how to handle situations.  It is the greatest feeling when you consistently tell kids there is no such thing as "I can't" but instead it is "I will struggle, but that will make me better" and then they stick with it and are able to get the skill.

Share a fun project you've worked on or innovative teaching method you've used this year. What made it memorable for you?

This year we implemented slack lines and ninja obstacle lines at Lincoln. It was a lot of fun to teach something new and adventurous. I think what made it memorable comes down to mental toughness again. Kids kept trying something that was hard and would get better at it each time.

What do you enjoy about being part of Faribault Public Schools?

I really enjoy the students, and the fact that I get to see them four times a week with PE. It is so rewarding to see how they mature a come together as they grow older, and to be able to build a relationship with the students for six years.
