Job title:  EL Teacher

Classes you teach: 1st and 2nd grade EL at Lincoln Elementary

Previous work experience:

I graduated with a Criminal Justice – Corrections degree and immediately started working with at risk youth in St. Paul.  After working there for a couple years, I started working with school age children as a program supervisor for ISD 196.  I decided go back to school for my Masters and my ESL licensure which led me to ISD 2905 for 1 ½ years before coming to Faribault.

Years with the district: 14

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I love traveling.  I’ve been to several countries and I enjoy learning about different cultures. I also love to spend time on the lake, kayaking, reading, and experiencing new adventures with my two boys.

What’s something interesting about you that not a lot of people know?

Something people may not know about me is that I have a twin sister.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in education?

I worked with elementary students in a school setting previous to teaching and I really enjoyed it.  I knew I wanted to work with students who are learning English because I’ve always been interested in other languages and cultures.

What do you enjoy most about working with students?

I enjoy the relationships that I make with the students.  My EL students seem to open up more in a small group setting so I love the connections I make with them when working in small groups.

What do you enjoy about being part of Faribault Public Schools? I enjoy being with my co-workers. We’ve been together for several years so coming to work feels like a home away from home.
